Hi all

I was wondering wether I can use the common aluminiumpowder( that is sold in craftshops for
making silver colours) for flashpowder.

Because I don´t have acces to KClO4 nor KClO3 I want to use KMnO4.
I think my Aluminiumpowder is coated with stearic acid but it makes my finger´s looking like silver,
also it is airfloat.
The particle-shape is flake and the average size is 70micron.

I want to use this formula:

70% KMnO4
30% Al

And I just want to make 1,0g charges´that is the maximum.
And I will be very carefull with it.

A few advices would be very good,

thanks and regards,

Paint aluminium absolutely sucks for most pyrotechnic applications. It is coated with a wax-like substance, what makes it too inert to be used in flash. It seems you can remove/dissolve the wax by refluxing it in an (by me) unknown solvent, but I've never tried.

Depends on your view of expensive, 400# Al powder can be purchased for less than 4 bucks for 100 grams and that would make much better flashpowder, however, if you can't find a good source I gues that was quite nice. :D

P.S: Any description or/of the ingredients of your paintshop Al? You would be suprised what paintstore's are trying to sell as aluminiumpowder. :P

Hi

I don´t care about the 71u aluminium stuff, because I can get 5u aluminiumpowder ( 1000g ) for free.

What about using it for KNO3/Al/S in 6/3/1 ratio, is that any good?

The factory sells paintaluminium ranging from 55-3,5micron, and the factory is 8 kilometres near my house, so I dont bother about ordering alumiumpowder anymore :P

Regards and greeting´s,
