Pirate
  2. I also made some rockets and they worked a little bit so here's the report. Well with one thing I agree with the Americans and that is that "bigger is better". No, I don't realy mean that but my craft tubbings where about 12 cm long and I didn't want to cut them in half so the rockets where quite big for a first time, but I had fun. It is a long time since I ran that fast So about the rockets they where about 12 cm long they had an ID of 11mm and a nozzle wich was 3.5mm. When I lit the fuse of the first one and had retreated to a safe distance it went up for about 4 meters and exploded. Well it did look nice  but I hadn't planed that would happen but nobody got hurt since we where at a safe distance my friend was even still runing when it happened so he didn't even see it. Then I tried out the second one and that one flew for 20 meters or so and then suddenly turned sideways and flew for another 50 meters before it hit the ground and even then it still burned for a long time. The third one had a small core I think so it didnt have enough thrust to get off the ground or my friend sticked it too deep in the ground but when I pulled it out it wasn't that stuck so I dont think that was the reason. And finaly I lit the last one and this one had the same problem as the first one, it also flew for a couple of meters and then exploded. I think that I know what the reason is for the cato-s. Because the engines where so long and I rammed them pretty hard they bended a bit. But the comp was realy hard (I noticed this during the drilling of the nozzles) so I think there was a crack in it and when the fire of the burning engine got to that crack it suddenly had a lot more comp wich caught fire and because the gasses couldn't escape fast enough it exploded. And that's it for now more will folow soon! Pirate
  3. Yesterday i discarded some more KMNO4 and the results where deaffening  I first lit some legaly bought firecrackers wich i had lying around and then i lit the fuse of my homemade firecrackers and the bang was about 4-5 times louder 8) Wel i hope i wont get caught but here in belgium you can buy fireworks legaly all year so i dont think they will make a big fus of it but ill be carefull. Pirate
  4. It finaly happend, i tested all my devices yesterday so here is the report. I had 2 fountains, one of them wasn't pressed and one was and they where about 10 cm long and had an ID of 11mm and a core wich was 4mm. I first lit the fuse of the pressed one and i runned like Forest Gump. Then there was a nice his and the comp(meal and aluminium powder) caught fire and there was my first homemade fountain . The fountain reached a height of about 1-1.5 meter and it lasted about a half minute and when it was about halfway it almost stopped and then returned with full force so that was a nice effect althoug it didn't was the intension. The tapped one was almost the same as the pressed one exept it dind't last so long but it did reach the same height. So im quite happy with the results but now i have to make more meal because im out and then i want to test some different comps. Pirate
  11. Ok the next i build i will press with a dowel and mallet. One other question when you've pressed the comp in your tube and you have filled up the top and made a nozle how do you stick the fuse in? Because now it was just tapped and i could slide the fuse in the comp not real easy but it went ok, but when you press it that wont be as simple i guess. So do you have to drill a small core just for igniting or do you fill up your nozle with loose meal where you put the fuse in and top up with some toilet paper or somthing like that? Pirate
  12. Ok that sounds good. I just tapped the bottom of the fountain so that my comp (meal+ironpowder) packed a litle bit thighter on eachother and my nozle is about 1/4 off the diameter. The total lenght off the fountain is about 20 cm and its in a tube off rolled kraftpaper and the nozle and end plug are made of plaster. I hope it will work as good as the bangers but ill have to have some patience to test it. Pirate
  13. I also made a couple of bangers this week and i do must say they did where realy loud 8) They also where with permangate, maybe not the safest comp but i still have about 60 grams of it and i find it a waste to throw it in the garbage not to metion that its to dangerous for the garbagemen so ill safely destroy it  The bangers where about 7 cm long and had 1cm ID. Pirate
  14. I also made a fountain but i havn't tested him yet so i dont know how good he's going to be. But i do have one litle question about fountains, when you throw in your comp do you press it like with rockets or do you just tap the bottom of the fountain so it gets a litle more packed on eachother but not pressed or do you just throw the comp in without tapping or pressing? Ok you do have a nozle so the air wont get to it all at once but dont you have more risk of a CATO because the powder can burn more rapidly since it aint pressed like a rocket? Pirate
  15. Welkom En veel plezier op het forum
Pirate
  17. Ok when i start experimenting some more with kno3 flash i will open a seperate topic.(dont wory i wont take it personaly oh mighty moderator   ) And about the permangate i alyet used a pestle and mortar but i used a small quantety and was carefull (but you both are right about tiny jumping cristals nothing happend but when i was cleaning up my towl suddenly was kind off purple) The flash wasn't of superb quality, but that was to be expected but it did work good. I didnt make stars yet but i will in a while so i wont forget to post the results here. Pirate
  18. Aha ok thanks now i know what i did wrong. Lets start scraping again, luckily i found a pile of those pencil fillings. Pirate
  19. Ah i just tried one and it worked It was one wich was made with the water/alcohol mix. Pirate
  20. There was about 2 mm insulation removed off the wires i used so ill make em shorter next time thanks for the tip  But when you aplied your graphite+NC laquer how much did you put on? Just enough that the insulators and the space between where covered or did there was a drop forming like a tip of a match because im thinking i maybe put on to much and therefore it needed a long time to heat up the outer layer of graphite and lighting the meal powder. And it alyet looked dry when i aplied the next layer but that probably was the outside of the layer only so il be more pacient next time. But i wasnt sure on how long my laquer was goint to preserve. And i just tried another one and this one didn't even ignite it started smoking a bit after a couple of secs but i dont want to thrash my converter yet so i unplugged it. When i held my fuse in a flame it did ignite fast so the meal aint the problem i guess. Pirate
  21. Ok i made my first bridgeless matches with the grafite from pencils and they work Although it did took a couple of secs (2-3) before the one i tested ignited, i tested it with a dc converter from 220v to 12v. I think that the problem was that i used to much NC laquer with the graphite because it was way to fluid so i gave three layers of it but because of that i think my graphite wasn't pure enough anymore. I also tested 5 minutes after i had aplied my mealpowder so maybe that had somthing to do with it also that it wasn't fully dry yet. But ill take a look or i can do it better only then ill have to start scraping again maybe next week. Pirate
  23. Hm i found out what you mean, a couple off times. But im still alive and kicking. But it do is a lot more complicated then i thought i got an automtic camera i should have thought about that before. Maybe i should have looked for one with no electric zoom and timer function and so but that was the only one he had laying aroud. And i only know one photoshop around here the rest are big electronic shops and i dont think they keep stock of such items probably i should have checked first. But i wont give up yet. Pirate
  24. Ah there is the Machine. It realy looks very nice  I dont know how its called in english but in dutch its called a "wormwiel" and its used for transferring the "power" of a vertical shaft to a horizontal. Maybe you can use something like that if you want to power the Machine with one motor. Here is a link to a site where there is a picture of such a wheel. http://www.ibsrotterdam.nl/PSL.htm This is a complicated version of it but you also have other versions for other aplications. And maybe if it's possible you could use a longer vertical power shaft and add a litle round wheel on top with rubber flaps on the sides so that the flaps hit the brass shaft witch holds the funnel and create vibrations while doing so or is this just a ridiculous idea? The only thing would be that it hits the shaft right next to the frame so maybe that won't be sufficient to vibrate the funnel. But if you add another "wormwiel" you can make another shaft so you can let the wheel with flaps come right next to the funnel. But then, of course, you have to alter the frame of the Machine so it might be too much trouble so with some more thought about it there might be another way. And that fuse does look nice and it's always useful if it burns under water, if it starts raining or so. Pirate
  25. That looks nice  Pirate
