When you wetten the BP, some of the KNO3 will dissolve in the water and crystallize IN the C,when you press it, you will force more KNO3 molecules in the C molecule giving you even better quality blackpowder, ideal pressure for BP is 1.7gr/cc IIRC.

gives quiet good blackpowder, only drawback is the drying time,
i allways mill everything together and then wetten it with a water acetone solution.
You have to use the acetone to prevent the KNO3 from crystallising out on the sides of the composition

I do that for blackmatch, a bobine of cotton string is lying in a bah with dissolved KNO3 in it,
the string goes true a paste of blackpowder(i use a silicon tube)and comes out coated with blackpowder, i make about 5 meters in a minute
You can work that out by using stoichiometrie,
S also gives some gas as you said but it actually slows down the mix a bith, in case of blackpowder it eliminates the precipation of carbonate so the mix will burn slower.
If you do that you will overfuel you're composition, sulfur has only one goal and that is to make the sas more sensitive(flahs more sensitive :shock: )

Ba(NO3)2 can be made by 2 easy ways(the ways that i use and know)
First one: BaCO3+2HNO3--->Ba(NO3)2+H2CO3(the H2CO3 will most likely fall apart in H2O and CO2)
Second way: BaCO3+2NH4NO3--->Ba(NO3)2+2NH3+H2CO3(watch out for ammonia vapours, the H2CO3 will most likely fall apart to)
BaCO3 can be bought at several places, just search a lot for it
Ba(NO3)2 isn't hard to find or make,if you want a flash core for the brightness of flash then i recommend you to use KNO3/Al/S flash(slow and quiet bright)
