Hi all My mother forbade me to store large amounts of BP and I am very scared that she will get arrested, so I stop making real pyro. A good alternative I think will be candy rockets, since they are not so dangerous like BP. I think that candyrockets can be quite funny. I have got large amounts of KNO3, so I want to make a few candyrockets. How can I make them very good and what precautions should be taken and would they take off as easy as BP-based rockets? I mean I ban anything of my pyro-career that is similar to BP. My mother would want to ask a firefighter wether making BP is illegal or not, and that scared the heck out of me. So I want to start candy-rocketry. So, any advices would be great! thanks, Pyrostar

Hi The sheet is turned. I bought some KNO3 at a spice shop, my mother gave me the advice that I should look at a spice shop for KNO3, the advice from my mother! Finally, I got 1Kg KNO3 for 10€. Now I can make BP again and so on. I have also made candy propellant, very cool though. So, however, everything is fine, let´s see how long it last. Pyrostar

Hi I am from Germany and can´t find any papershell´s for my round shells. And I want to make some paperhalves myself. Now, here comes the tricky part, how can I make them myself? I have seen some styropor- balls, but I think the walls are too thick ( 2cm). and the styropor ball will shatter from the shock that releases the liftpowder when it ignites. Also, they are very expensive. Advices would be very nice, since I´m planning a 2" shell with golden stars( BaNO3/Fe/S and Dextrin) Thanks, Pyrostar

Hi Ho, the thread will never end... Today was a day like all the others. My mother want´s me to go to a psychiatrist, just becuase I am making pyro. My father says I make him sick with my passion. He says, that every day is annoying for him, I don´t understand them and I don´t know what is wrong with them. Again, no rockets, no salutes, no fountains, no wheel´s etc... the same problem as the last time I posted this thread. When I become 16, I will search for some homes and then I will leave my parents, I can not live with them together anymore. I will also look for a job for my money. I am so sad and I am so irritated. Don´t know what to do know. My father said to me that I should change my hobby and I shouldn´t make " dumb pyro" anymore, because I am just doing pyro, nothing else. But I do fishing, playing footbal, aikido etc. I took all my chemicals and bring them into the dump, because my father say they musn´t be in my room and in my room it smells like a chemlab....bla bla bla. Hoo...god. Hi, I am back I have got some good news: I have created some fireworks( fountains, catherine wheels and rockets) and show them my parents, my father took his camera and record these devices. And the end of the show he was totally fascinated from my firework´s. I´m planning on a 2" round shell with some tigertail stars, since I have got huge amounts of KNO3( buttcher) and all the other stuff for making stars. I have also made a star-rolling machine, a rocket-tooling and a starpump. I show them my parents and explain how they work and they were totally fascinated from what I can do. Hi deadman You said the thing with your charcoal fingers and the furniture, I have got the same problem as yours!!! I grind my charcoal with mortar and pestle, and the dust flyes everywhere.The next morning, I woke up and then my pyroroom is full of a thin layer of charcoaldust, now I have a sneeze nose!!! I found some SrCO3 for 7€ a kilogram at a pottery-shop. The reason that I can get this chemicals was that I ask my father wether he can order some visco for me, he said no, but dont care!!! Then I have written some good notes and I have explained my father that I can't create pyrotechnic devices at all if I havent got chemicals like KNO3/S/charcoal/ and the other stuff like metalpowder and so on. Then I said to him: Dad I found some chemicals in onlinestores, I want to show you them and then you can think over it wether I can buy them, ok??? That was a good start, because I never was able to order some chemicals via internet!!! But I am very very scared that the police will arrive to my house if I order some KNO3 and aluminiumpowder etc. Did anyone here get caught as he was ordereing chemicals via internet??? Now I just need to persuade my mother from my hobby and then everything will be fine!!! I will make some tigertail stars when I get my KNO3 in bigger amounts and then I will make some fountains and starmines. Hi Does it really need to be milled longer???? I thought that is superfast for blackpowder. Then need to mill the BP for 3 hours or longer??? The maximum milling time for my ball mill is 6 hours. 1. Because of my mother 2. Because the transformator will get quite warm. 3. My motor has got a crappy quality. I would say it is time to build a very efficient ball mill. PS: I cant make that much BP, since my neighbour is from the police( they looking for kids who create illegall devices, i learned it the hard way, as I was firing a 1" salute shell on new-years eve.) Great news, next week I'll get back my KNO3. I will make some tigertail-stars for starmines. Then I will get SrCO3, BaNO3, aluminiumpowder(70micon), magnesiumpowder and KCLO4 from ebay. My mother calmed down and my father, too. Thanks for all your advices, I love ya all :)

Does anyone here have experiences with rye-charcoals for super-duper fast blackpowder???

I have made my first succesful blackpowder batch( 30g) in my small and crappy balll mill. Dextrin was mixed to the BP, dampened with water to make granulated BP with a spaghetti-strainer. Here is a video of it: Does the BP burned at a good speed??? Bp was made with willowcharcoal and was milled for 2 hours with oval fishing sinkers.

For making charcoal i just take a coffeepot, put the willowwood in it and cook it for 30 minutes. thge charcoal is very soft and make a "clicck" if you beat a stick of wood against the coal. If I make BP with this charcoal, no residue is left( no ash). there is just a dark trace on the stone from the burned BP

I dont think that my mother would let me turn the ball mill for 10h. She would say it is too expensive and it is retarded to do that for blackpowder. I might try the CIA-method.

I can get hemp-seeds in fishing stores, did anyone test the alder buckthorn coal??? I have tried willow and mill the BP for 5 hours and it didnt burn that fast. I am very interested in other coals, i cant test the balsa, because it is very expensive here (10g of wood!!! 6,90€) what about chestnut, large leaf linden wood, poplar etc.

Good news: My mother says that i can get my KNO3 back if i change my basic attitude. Also, I will never ever !!! I´ll never create salutes anymore, just light-effects. My friend says he just mix something together to make BP, just some dirt BBQ-Briquettes and some KNO3 and this does produce a pop unconfined hehe, he is such a idiot So, here is my question: What is the best chacoal for blackpowder??? I am also interested in exotic charcoal´s such as chestnut or other´s. I have heard that alder buckthorn should be the best charcoal, but I can´t find or "smell" it.

I started with making fountains too, I take the BP from regular fireworks and build small fireworks for my mothers birthday, she was fascinated but now she is very annoyed about pyro. I told her my perfect ideas and that I don't make anything that is dangerous or deadly, even I use no toxic substances. I take a little pyrobreak for my mother to calm down, and say nothing about pyro for 1 month, maybe that would help.

I have ordered some KNO3; my mother took it away( including the other stuff), now i cantmake any fountains, fuses, blackpowder, or other stuff!!!!! pyro is history for me now!!!!! i AM SO SAD!!!!! i have planned on making a viscomachine a ball mill, a grinding tool, EVERYTHING IS FOR THE ARSE!!!! PS: I am 15. STOP SCREAMING! Or get a warning. T.

I can't get it cheaper, since here in Germany kno3 fertilizer isn't common.

I have ordered some very very expensive KNO3(250g for 15€) and will create some fountains to persuade my parents what wonderful things I can create. Maybe that would help

GREAT NEWS: I have made a propellant star myself: i took BP and 15% ironpowder from sparklers( took a magnet to get rid of them), ram it in a tube(1cm wide,3cm high) as hard as possible and scrape a round notch in in the BP-star, the result was a nice little rocket and golden tail.

How is the star formed to act as a propellant?

Does anyone here know a formula for a golden tail effect like in this video( it is a birdbanger salute): Maybe something with pinecharcoal?

I dont mean I hate them seriously, I just hate them for this character, cause they forbid me everything that is similar to pyrotechnics.

In a few months I want to order some Al-Powder from an art-shop( 5g for 3,25€!!!!!) and some KNO3, then I will make some BP and then I´ll build a fountain. PS: I dont buy anything of the above chemicals in the first post, since my parents wont order anything for me, they dont respect my passion!!!!

I have got a big problem: My parents are thinking that I am sick in my head, cause I create pyrotechnic devices, I create them every weekend and go fishing and do some fightsports (aikido, taekwondo). I CAN GET aLL MY MATERIAL´s: KCLO4/KCLO3/KNO3/SrNO3/BaNO3magnesiumpowder/ 800 mesh aluminium and some visco and the other stuff from ebay etc!!!! But my parents dont find it OK that I am making pyro, I want to create bigger shells and fountains but they were so strict to me. I have got 1500€, that is enough money for pyrotechnic things, I can also build my own ball mill for making perfect blackpowder, but they are against it!!!! I create wonderfull shells, fountains and show the shells to my parents, but if something is built bigger and bigger, they say automatically stop,stop,stop, dont do that again, IT IS FORBIDDEN I hate my parents, I said to them that pyrotechnic is like every other hobby and they say NO NO NO. IT IS MY PASSION SINCE 7 years, but they still don´t respect it. AND they always thought that I am making explosives or other crap for blowing telephone-cells up etc. AND I CANT DO PYRTOTECHNICS IN MY ROOM; I NEED TO DO THAT IN A VERY COLD AND HUMID AND STINKY ROOM!!!!
