  1. nail varnish remover contains amyl acetate as well as acetone in uk hence smell of pear drops . toluene will dissolve cellulose it is one of the only solvents for ptfe it is only available on a very restricted sale basis . acetone should also be available from any supplier of fibre glass (polyester) resin.it is used to clean off resin . they also stock aluminium powder. if from a paint suppliers then it is listed as cellulose thinners.other paint solvents such as white spirit etc are of no use . An alternative is petrol . petrol is one of the few solvents for vaseline or petroleum jelly . I use it at 40g/litre to slow combustion of bp in rocket motors
  2. when the magnesium is added you can remove crucible from heat, stir slowly with steel rod to mix then drip magnalium slowly into water ,It makes strange noises and forms pieces full of gas bubbles but it is then very easy to grind it up
  3. cornflour baked to make dextrin is a good glue mixed with water . wallpaper paste is useable for tube rolling if you low bake them in oven 100 c afterwards to dry.Builders merchants sell large containers of pva this can be watered down as paper glue .Best glue is sodium silicate solution it used to be called water-glass, buy it from potters suppliers it can be baked for rock hard tubes that are almost flame proof
  4. the other sections are superb but i have to translate 1 line at a time into english to read them ,is there an easier way? apart from spending all summer in Holland ??anyone want english lessons this summer???
  5. beware the prime is very close to 70/30 magnalium/KClO4 the most powerful flash i have made/used .The only difference is for flash the magnalium is much finer . perhaps a thermit type compound bp with added iron oxide would safely ignite the stars
  6. sorry previous post difficult to follow saltpetre KNO3 63% sugar 27% sulphur S 10% casing 1/4 inch inside diameter ( quarter inch) length 2 inches nozzle diameter 1/8 th inch ive tested these very small but fly well all information from "the incredible 5 cent sugar rocket " teleflite corporation may be found at http://www.alphalink.com.au/~brucej/nickle.htm
  7. i have been using a propellent listed as teleflite propellent a mix of KNO3 S and sugar it works well in the original tube size but is very pressure sensitive in larger diameter tubes (eg 15mm id ) burn speed rapidly increases and a 3 4 or 5 mm nozzle plug is blown out with a loud report the rocket then falls back to the ground i tried slowing burn time by addition of veg oil 1% but fuel characteristics stayed the same has anyone had any success with a casteable fuel grain using KNO3 and glues / resins??????
  8. oh prozz i forgot to mention dank u voor bullshit most entertaining
  9. aluminium powder is used as a metallic filler powder and is available from grp resin / glass fibre material suppliers ***caution fine aluminium powder has been linked to early onset of alzheimmers disease always wear a good respirator ****
  10. dextrine glue is very good but sodium silicate solution sometimes called waterglass sets harder and makes tubes almost fireproof the quickest solid seal for tubes must be bentonite powdered and rammed also called fullers earth and available as cat litter. For flash salutes the top end has to be glued saw dust and epoxi cement or plaster of paris/ dental plaster are all possibilities however if the salute isnt on a rocket header remember the end plug may fly like a bullet
