Formula for goldentail star (as a propellant in small tubes)

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here know a formula for a golden tail effect like in this video( it is a birdbanger salute):

Maybe something with pinecharcoal?

Lots of bright orange-like sparks, I'd say there's some Fe (Ironpowder) in it. (10-20%?)
As the tail is not that long-lasting, there won't be any pine charcoal in it. Just fine soft charcoal to make it good-burning.

Try regular blackpowder with 15% Ironpowder added. You'll get close to it. Not enough sparks? Add more Iron.

Ir could also be FeTi, in that case you can add lots of iron with a little bit of aluminium, makes it more bright. (As FeTi is hard to get)

Most star compositions act as a propellant when confined (please DON'T ram, but gently press) in a small tube, especially those containing chlorates. Using a nozzle is preferred, since this will improve the rockets prestations. I've been using colored star compositions for colored rockets for a while, but they generally seem to be very sensitive to friction and heat.

GREAT NEWS: I have made a propellant star myself:

i took BP and 15% ironpowder from sparklers( took a magnet to get rid of them), ram it in a tube(1cm wide,3cm high) as hard as possible and scrape a round notch
in in the BP-star, the result was a nice little rocket and golden tail.
